Dear CFI members all over California,

Region 4 courts (covering San Diego, Imperial Valley, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Inyo counties) want the unfettered ability to use Video Remote Interpreting without safeguards and refuse to provide employee interpreters a long overdue significant raise to cover rising pension contributions and cost of living.

The courts are still refusing to add “court location” in the agreement when it comes to VRI. Why? We believe it’s because they are planning to have interpreters work from remote locations such as someone’s home, hotel … We just don’t know how far “remote” will be.

Courts also claim they want to reward interpreters for doing VRI and are offering us a 25% stipend that we have rejected several times, but they won’t monetize even a small percentage of that stipend into wages for all. We don’t think it’s fair. More importantly, we don’t think it is good for the present — and the future— of our profession.

We’re rallying again at noon on Tuesday, September 3, the day before our bargaining committee goes into mediation. Even if you can’t be there with us, you can show that you stand with us by:

  • Wearing red
  • Posting letters/signs of support for your CFI Region 4 colleagues
  • Sending pictures to [email protected]or simply replying to this email and attaching your pics so we can post on line.

An injury to one is an injury to all!

We need you and the rest of the regions!
